• New York pheasant stocking site closures: New York DEC announced that western New York pheasant hunting opens October 17, 2026. Hunting and pheasant dog training will be prohibited at stocking sites on designated stocking days, while other wildlife-related recreation remains allowed. Wildfire and Fire Restrictions

• Deschutes National Forest restrictions end: Public use fire restrictions ended September 25 at 12:01 a.m. on the Deschutes National Forest. Fireworks remain prohibited on National Forest System lands, and you should confirm local conditions before using a campfire or portable stove. Read the U.S. Forest Service update.
• Ochoco prescribed fire planned: Ochoco National Forest plans to begin fall prescribed fire operations next week, pending approvals. The Howard Elliott Johnson project is expected to treat about 1,931 acres, and several dispersed camping sites will close temporarily during operations. Trail and Access Closures

• Yosemite Dome Fire closures continue: The Dome Fire was reported at 4,498 acres and 28 percent contained on September 26. Glacier Point Road, Chilnualna Falls Trail, trails toward Buena Vista and Crescent Lakes, and Ostrander Trail plus areas south of it remain closed. • Big Bend wildlife management closures: Mesa de Anguila will close October 1, while Deadhorse Mountains and surrounding areas, including Dagger Flat Road and Old Ore Road, will close October 2 for targeted wildlife management operations. • Kayaker dies in Clear Lake: A 37-year-old Yuba City man drowned while kayaking in Northern California’s Clear Lake. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said he was not wearing a personal flotation device when recovered and reminded boaters, kayakers, and paddleboarders to wear a life jacket.
