Fishing and Regulations

Keep your tackle organized with the Fishing Accessories collection before your next launch.

Wildfire and Fire Restrictions

  • Yosemite’s Dome Fire: The National Park Service reports that the fire covers 2,667 acres and is 15% contained, with 525 personnel assigned. The fire spread 283 acres overnight, smoke is affecting visibility, and Yosemite Valley and Wawona may reach unhealthy-for-sensitive-groups air quality. Check AirNow’s fire and smoke information before traveling.

Trail and Access Closures

  • Chilnualna Falls closures: Yosemite remains open overall, but the Chilnualna Falls Trail and trails toward Buena Vista and Crescent Lakes remain closed because of the Dome Fire. The lakes remain reachable from the east, so confirm your route before setting out.
  • East Portal Road reopens: The National Park Service reported that the six-mile road near Curecanti National Recreation Area was scheduled to reopen by 8:00 a.m. on September 19 after mudslide concerns. Vehicles longer than 22 feet, including trailers, remain prohibited, and visitors should use caution in burn-scar areas during rain.

Water Safety

  • Kayakers help locate missing Isle Royale hiker: The Washington Post reports that a hiker spent 11 days lost on a remote island near the Canadian border before two kayakers appeared and helped bring attention to his location. Carry reliable navigation and emergency communication gear, and tell someone your route before heading into remote country.

Gear Recalls

No significant updates today. Check your equipment for current manufacturer and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notices before using it.

Featured Gear: A Speco 4-inch by 6-inch Weatherproof PA Speaker Horn can help you communicate clearly around a boat, campsite, or remote outdoor setup.
