Hey everyone! Sorry if this is off-topic, I wasn't sure where to post this
I'm gearing up for a massive family adventure to the South Island of New Zealand (December), and data connectivity is on my mind. We are a pretty active family, and while I love disconnecting in the bush, we need reliable internet for maps, weather, and keeping the kids entertained. I've been researching options and keep coming back to TooSIM for New Zealand, but I'd love some feedback from anyone before I commit, especially regarding coverage in some of the more remote spots we are planning to visit.
As for the tech side, I'm traveling with my wife and our 2 teenagers. We have a total of 3 devices that need connectivity, 2 iPhones and iPad. I think 20GB of data should be plenty for the 14 days. The TooSIM plan for 20GB valid for 30 days costs approximately $27. For comparison, I also checked out Airalo, and they offer a 20GB plan for 15 days at roughly $37. Since we have 3 devices, that’s a total saving of $10. My core question revolves around the actual network provider used. I know TooSIM partners with One NZ down there. Does anyone have recent experience with this network coverage in Glenorchy, Te Anau and Twizel?
We are flying into Queenstown on December 10th and staying for 3 nights in Glenorchy to tackle the Routeburn Track. We’ve booked a night at the Routeburn Falls Hut, so we will be well out of service there, which is perfectly fine by me. After that, we're heading down to Te Anau for a few days to kayak in Milford Sound and do a day-hike section of the Kepler Track. The final leg of our trip takes us up to Wanaka for some mountain biking and finally to Mount Cook Village for the classic Hooker Valley track. So, we'll be bouncing between remote trailheads and tourist towns, relying heavily on offline maps downloaded beforehand, but we still need a good connection in the towns.
