I grew up hunting. Mostly whitetail and some small game. When you grow up in the wilderness, you tend to think everyone has a similar childhood experience. Even with a background like that, I've never been one of those overly passionate hunters. I go out there, and if I see something: great. If I don't: that's okay, too. I've never really had that itch that some people get about it.
That may have been different if some of my first hunting exposure was waterfowl hunting. It wasn't until a few years back when I was invited on an all-girls hunting trip in Kansas that I had my first taste, and my goodness, is it fun!
Everything I didn't love about hunting as a young girl in PA simply does not exist when hunting ducks and geese in the Midwest. Hunting waterfowl from a lay-down blind with a group of your closest friends is a truly exceptional way to experience sourcing your own food. That's the great reward of hunting after all- providing food for yourself and your family. When you get to do that from the comfort of a blind, wrapped in blankets if you prefer, a mug of warm coffee and a breakfast burrito tucked in beside you, watching the sunrise, and giggling with your girls- now that's living.
Where are my lady hunters at?
