Pomfret, VT is far from urban, but it is a cute little town. There's a general store there, called Teago, that serves the best breakfast. Because of its proximity to both the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail, through-hikers were always there grabbing a bite and resting. I loved hanging out there on weekend mornings in my van, snacking, and hearing about their adventures. I'd often spot them their coffee or bagel. I am not made for through hiking like that, but I love the idea of it and hearing stories from others. Have you ever run into a through-hiker in town or in the city?
I like the sounds of this. You're very kind to buy coffee and bagels.
No through hikers for me, but I regularly host cycle tourists. I've been doing it for years, and hosted in CO, IL, and now, NY.
Here in Albany, cyclists use the Empire State Trail and Erie Canal Trail Systems to travel throughout the United States. Last year, I rode from Buffalo to Albany over 6 days. For three nights, I stayed with hosts.
For hosting/being hosted, I am part of Warmshowers– A global community of touring cyclists.
