Just wanted to share how much I love this peak. If you've ever driven into Buena Vista, Colorado, Mount Princeton has stared you straight in the face upon entry. It's such a classically beautiful peak. Tall and rugged, it frames the valley below in a way that commands nothing less than reverence.

It's not a terribly difficult hike as far as Colorado 14ers go. It's about 7 miles round trip if you have a 4WD vehicle and can make it all the way to the main trailhead. The road is a little sketchy, and parking lower adds about 6 miles. When I did the hike, I parked at the lower lot by choice. I was there to spend the day outside...why not enjoy some extra miles?

Most of the trail is relatively chill with only a moderate incline. The top portion, though, is a steep boulder field, and every step requires inspection before trusting all your weight on it. The talus and boulders can be very loose through most of the upper section of this trail, so if you plan to summit, take your time. It requires some light scrambling in sections. Along with that, cairns are few and far between, so just keep an eye on the summit and be slow and thoughtful with your steps! The views are will be more than worth it! I had the summit entirely to myself the whole time the day I hiked- no rushing necessary. I don't recommend bringing the furry friends along for this one, but it's truly a favorite of mine.

At the end of your epic day in the Collegiate Peaks, head into Eddyline Brewing for an Epic Day Double IPA. You earned it. 🍻
