I have had the pleasure of snowboarding all over the country. I've seen the big resorts. I've bought the most expensive tickets. I've seen the insides of lodges from east to west. And very few places hold a candle to Monarch Mountain.
Monarch is tucked away safely on Monarch Pass, near Salida, CO. Small mountain vibes, big mountain snow. This family owned and operated hidden gem has been around for over 80 years. Not only does it give you incredible opportunity to hike to acres and acres of untouched powder in their upper basin, but they also have killer cat-skiing. They're set to open an all new basin late 2025, bringing even more unbelievable terrain to this unsuspecting resort.
The vibes here are just unmatched. Lines are (almost always) non-existent and the deep, fluffy powder is endless. Not to mention, the après is on point. Sidewinders serves up some seriously next-level nachos and b****y Marys.
Every time I see their signature butterfly logo, I'm quick to start a chat with the one rocking it. It somehow still feels like a secret in a state that's otherwise flooded with tourists. It's always fun to spot that sticker out and about in other parts of the country and know they're in the secret too. So who else is in the club? Any Monarch Mountain lovers out there?
