Of all the beautiful places in the country, Kansas tends to be one of the key gathering points for my hunting/fishing friend groups. It's central to everyone, there is an impressive amount of gorgeous land to be appreciated. For hunting specifically, it's one of my favorite places.
My group of friends doesn't really believe in downtime, so when we have some, we're quick to fill it. We had an afternoon with nothing on the docket during a particular trip last year and decided to patrol some of the streams and creeks for bullfrogs. The four of us had our hearts set on frog leg dinner.
We wore tall muck boots and walked right through the water, with two compound bows in hand. I had my Hoyt with me, which I wasn't exactly practicing frequently with at the time. Much to my surprise, I was able to take the first big old bullfrog that appeared on the bank quickly and efficiently with an arrow. It was the first time I had attempted a bullfrog hunt, and I couldn't believe how much fun I had. It was a completely unique way to put our proficiency with our bows to the test. The group harvested enough to enjoy a traditional Southern dinner together. We grilled some and fried some, with a remoulade on the side. For anyone curious - you need a valid fishing license in the state of Kansas to take part!
