Share Your Best Sources for Edible Plants
A few years ago, I saw the movie "Into the Wild", the story of Christopher McCandless, A.K.A., Alexander Supertramp. While the movie can serve as inspiration for wanderlust, it's also a cautionary tale on what to put in your mouth when food is scarce.
This is a topic that has fascinated me because it really could make or break you if you're in a survival situation and have to rely on nature for nourishment.
Below are some books I've read on edible plants in the wilderness - what can kill you and what can keep you alive.
- The Forager's Harvest: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants
- Edible Wild Plants: Wild Foods from Dirt to Plate
- A Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants: Eastern and Central North America
OK, please share your sources. I am looking forward to hearing your input.
I love this topic! It's so important!
Two books I have on mushys specifically...

- Go Forth and Forage: A Guide to Foraging Over 50 of the Most Common Edible & Medicinal North American Mushrooms

rnAlso, I would recommend looking up foraging classes in your immediate area. There are SO many plants that look so similar to one another with completely different effects of the human body. Finding someone who offers courses in the wilderness areas near you, or even just working with a mentor, is a great idea!
