I finally picked up a pair of Rocky Talkies. Specifically, I got the Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio. The Mountain Radio is a rugged "license-free radio designed and tested in the Colorado Rockies. Created with climbers and skiers in mind, the compact radio is suited for any rugged adventure where communication is critical."

It took me a while to try them because I always saw them as frivolous. But the more I get older/overthink things and guide bigger rock routes, I wanted to see if they could help. I am curious to see how convenient they can be and how they impact communication with my partners and clients.

Here's what I think so far:

  • really nice, sleek, and durable design
  • the included carabiner and leash will be super convenient for clipping onto my harness
  • Came with free stickers! YAY
  • The included manual is really well done, easy to read, and informative
  • The radios themselves are simple and easy to use thus far

I am looking forward to taking them into the field and testing them more. I leave for a 10-day climbing trip on Friday. I'll circle back and do a longer-term review later.

Anybody have thoughts on Rocky Talkies?
