Having the right knowledge and preparation going into any wilderness setting is a must. And proper preparation means having a well-stocked first aid kit on hand. But if you know where to look, nature provides some first aid remedies of its own!

  • Yarrow – Famous for its ability to stop bleeding. Crush the leaves into a poultice and apply it to wounds to help slow blood flow and promote clotting. It also has antimicrobial properties to help prevent infection.
  • Willow Bark – Sometimes called “nature’s aspirin,” willow bark contains salicin, which helps relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Brew it into a tea or chew on a small piece to help with headaches or sore muscles.
  • Chickweed – A common yard "weed," chickweed has cooling, anti-itch properties. It’s great for treating rashes, scrapes, and minor burns—just mash up the leaves and apply them to the affected area.
  • Pine Resin – The sticky sap from pine trees is nature’s antiseptic and wound sealant. It can be applied directly to small cuts to prevent infection and promote healing. Plus, in a pinch, it can be used as a fire starter!

These are just a few ideas of common plants with unbelievable benefits. What else would you add to this all-natural first aid kit??
