New “Pull Start Fire” Starter – Seems Like a No-Brainer for Survival Kits
I haven’t had the chance to use this myself yet, but I came across the Pull Start Fire firestarter and it looks like one of those “why wouldn’t you carry this?” pieces of gear.
It’s basically a self-contained fire starter you trigger by pulling a string -- no matches, no lighter, no kindling. It’s compact, burns for a long time, and is designed to light even wet wood while being windproof and rainproof. In other words, it’s not meant to replace your normal fire skills, but it looks like a really smart backup for when conditions are bad or you’re cold, tired, and just need a fire going fast.
For me, it checks a lot of “survival kit” boxes: long burn time, simple to use under stress, and small enough to toss into a get-home bag, vehicle kit, or camping bin and forget about until you actually need it. It seems like cheap insurance for anyone who camps, hunts, heats with wood, or just wants a reliable way to get a fire going when everything’s working against you.
I’m going to stash in my truck, boat, and camping tote. If anyone here has real-world experience with them, I’d love to hear how they performed in bad weather.
