4 critical characteristics I look for when selecting indoor climbing shoes
- Aggressive downturn shape: downturned shape helps claw down on small holds in steep, underhanging terrain.
- Asymmetrical profile: asymmetry strategically pinpoints your energy/body weight into a specific area at the big toe that makes standing on small edges easier.
- Soft flex: soft flexing shoes are better at shmearing. This is helpful inside because climbing holds have gotten bigger and the usage of volumes is more popular.
- Velcro closure system: a velcro closure allows me to conveniently take my shoes on and off throughout a gym session.
With all that in mind, I landed on theLa Sportiva Futura. I have been wearing them for years and have multiple pairs. I have yet to find a different shoe that performs as well inside. La Spo recently came out with a redesign and new colorway for the Futura, but I still have the old-school blue/yellow model.
