I’d never tried indoor climbing before, but one rainy afternoon, I decided to give it a shot at my local climbing gym. The brightly colored walls, endless routes, and excited climbers made the whole place feel like a mini adventure park. I picked an easy beginner route, or so I thought.

As I made my way up, my arms started to burn, my legs wobbled, and I realized how much technique was actually involved. It was way harder than I expected! But with each successful move, I felt more confident, more determined. After reaching the top, I couldn’t stop smiling. The challenge, the focus, the mental and physical strength—it all felt so rewarding.

Since that day, I’ve been hooked on indoor climbing, and I’m constantly setting new goals, pushing my limits with every climb. There’s something about overcoming that initial doubt and conquering the wall that keeps me coming back for more.

Anyone else fall in love with climbing the first time they tried it? What’s your favorite type of climb—speed, technique, or endurance?

I fell in love with indoor climbing during a 3-month membership deal with my local gym. Once I had the membership, I bought a pair of La Sportiva Tarantulaces and a chalk bag and climbed my fingertips off. I haven't looked back since. It's been over 10 years.

Technique-dependent rock climbs are my favorites.
