I Spent an incredible day fly fishing on the Madison River in Montana, one of the most legendary trout streams in the U.S. The flows were just right, and the weather was perfect—overcast with a slight breeze. I started with a dry-dropper setup using a Parachute Adams with a Copper John below, and within minutes, I had my first strike.
The highlight of the day was landing a beautiful 20-inch brown trout after a solid five-minute fight. It took a well-placed cast near a slow-moving eddy, and watching it rise to the dry fly was unreal. I also had success nymphing deeper pools with a Pat’s Rubber Legs when the bite slowed down in the afternoon.
There’s nothing quite like the rhythm of casting, the sound of the river, and the thrill of feeling a strong fish on the line. Who else has fished the Madison? What are your go-to flies for this river?
