The title says it all– is fishing hunting? Or is it more like trapping? Maybe it's neither?
I'm asking because, as a kid, fishing meant sitting on a dock in a lake, waiting for my Pokemon-looking fishing bobber to plunge underwear, signaling a bite. This sort of felt like I was waiting to trap my prey.
But then, as an adult, I tried fly fishing. I was intentionally searching through a river, looking for fish, and casting my fly in very specific ways. This felt like hunting.
Are there any philosophical opinions out there?
That's an interesting question.
Fishing isn't as targeted as hunting. As you suggested, it is more like trapping as you are planting bait rather than proactively seeking out prey.
