If you’re into miles and miles of alpine hiking and big sweeping vistas, the Beartooth Highway might just be your new favorite place. This stretch of road climbs to nearly 11,000 feet as it winds from Red Lodge, Montana to the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone, and the trails along the way are next-level. You’ve got access to high-alpine lakes, sweeping ridgelines, and peaceful trails that make you feel as though you've fallen away from society altogether.

Even if you’re not camping or hiking, the drive alone is unreal—one of those routes where you pull over every few miles just to take it all in. Snowfields linger into summer, the air is thin and crisp, and the views go on forever. But for hikers? This is a goldmine. Trailheads dot the route, and you can be above treeline in no time, because you're starting high! Bring your boots, a jacket, and a camera—you’ll want all three. In my opinion, it's the most epic drive in the country. The fact that there are countless hiking opportunities and over a dozen campgrounds - not to mention tons of dispersed options- makes it that much more incredible. You could spend days in that 68-mile stretch of road and barely catch a glimpse of all it has to offer.
