I grew up about 30 minutes from the Quabbin Reservoir in Belchertown, MA. It's a beautiful reservoir with a long winding scenic road and tons of hiking trails. I'm fairly certain it's the largest inland body of water in MA and it supplies a large amount of cities on the eastern side of the state. It's one of my favorite places. But its history is steeped in sadness. In April 1938, multiple towns were disincorporated and flooded to create the reservoir. I remember reading a book about that part in school and being so sad. I can't imagine that happening to my hometown, but it is also so great that we have this water supply and natural area.
