Two summers ago I spent a long weekend solo camping in Acadia. It was a beautiful trip and I was so grateful for the experience. Leading up to the trip, I was really excited about hiking the Beehive trail. I had just gotten over the hump of surgery recovery from the winter and was looking forward to being back in action. Many people told me how challenging Beehive was and I was ready to take it on. The day before I planned on doing Beehive, I spent the morning at Jordan Pond and decided to try out the Bubbles trail. I had read about it beforehand, but really underestimated its difficulty. I hit a certain point where I just had to keep climbing up even though I hadn't really planned to be scrambling and climbing that day. It wouldn't have made any sense to turn around. As I finally reached the top, I took in the gorgeous view and felt so proud of myself. I did wonder though... if Bubbles was like that and there wasn't much hype around it... what was Beehive like? The next day I set out for Beehive and found it to be much easier than Bubbles, like by leaps and bounds. I think it was because Beehive had so many assists with the ladders and handles and Bubbles, not so much. After those two trails, I had wanted to try Precipice, but the peregrine falcons were nesting so the trail was closed. Have you hiked at Acadia? What did you think about Beehive and Bubbles?
I agree with this 100%!! I actually made a post about my experience on the South Bubble trail and the terrible weather I experienced there. Some of the gnarliest I've ever been out in, which only increased the difficulty. The slippery granite, old iron rungs, and torrential rain did not make a great combo
