One of my all time favorite early spring forest friends is Trillium or birthroot. My favorite ones are the deep dark reds (they're so sexy!!) It's important not to pick them, because it might kill the plant. Its flower collects allllll the sunlight and nutrients it needs to live for the entire rest of the year, underground as a rhizome. So cool! Do you se trillium in your area? What are your favorite spring ephemerals?
