Spanish Bullfighting

A few years ago I was lucky enough to do a short study abroad trip in Andalusia, the southern region of Spain. While true bullfighting is largely over in most parts of the world, we did have the opportunity to watch one at one of the last venues still hosting the events. I opted not to go and am glad for that. I understand the theatrics and culture, but don't like the senseless violence towards an animal. What are your thoughts on bullfighting?
