Snapping turtles were common visitors to the state park I worked in, but one day close to winter, we found a tiny one roaming around our parking lot, far from any body of water. We immediately scooped him up and brought him to the pond so he could get to safety before the cold set in. Over the course of the summer, there had been some really huge snapping turtles on the trail alongside the gorge so it was heartwarming to see one so incredibly small. I'm looking forward to getting outside again more often as things warm up so I can continue to have these charming wildlife interactions.
