I've been thinking a lot about music and activism recently after writing a lesson where students analyze the lyrics to Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell. My partner is working on a musical composition project where he writes pieces about the arboreal emblem of different states and countries. At a time where society is so troubled and so many seem to be out of touch with nature, it feels good to make music that helps bridge that gap. Do you have any favorite songs about environmentalism? Any particular lyrics that you feel really hit home?
In the song, "Earthling" by Wookiefoot, there's a lyric I LOVE:
"The Earth is not given to you by your parents/
It is loaned to you by your children"
