When I was a teenager, my parents and I went to Maui for two weeks. It was the trip of a lifetime and I am so incredibly grateful we had that experience as a family. One of the most incredible things we did, was an excursion called the Road to Hana. The drive took us around the entire island and up into isolated mountain communities. We were able to eat fresh fruit right off the trees, take in the beauty of a secluded black sand beach, and hike through caves that went under the road. Our tour guide, Keoni, had never been to mainland America and he was deeply immersed in his culture, which made the adventure that much more enjoyable. The ride itself felt precarious as he maneuvered our Jeep over high mountain passes, dangling off the side of cliffs, but it was exhilarating. The beauty is something I will never forget. If I could repeat any of my travels, this is a trip I would absolutely take again.
