One of my favorite nature crafts is making pokeweed ink and dye. I got really into natural dyeing over the last few years and this is one of my favorites. The vibrant pink color it makes and the joy of smashing the berries to get there is what makes it all so special to me. I don’t have pokeweed growing in my yard at my new place, so I’m looking forward to learning about growing it this year. To make the dye, just gather a good amount of ripe, black berries and then crush them! Strain out the berry skin and add a touch of rubbing alcohol so the ink doesn’t ferment. Definitely wear gloves and smash the berries up in a plastic bag if you can. The ink won’t permanently stain, but you will be pink for a while! What would you make with the ink?
