Here's another poem! I wrote this one during my first summer working as a state park ranger in Vermont.
Vignette I
In the way that a moonflower
Unfolds its petals at night,
And in the same way that a leggy houseplant
Reaches for the sun,
My body yearns
For the forest.
Vignette II
I go to the woods to worship my deity
Made of soil, bark, and trees.
Never before in all my life
Have I seen myself in something holy
But I am alive
In the wide expanse before me.
Vignette III
Place a crown of laurels
On my head
Or a daisy chain instead.
Whatever it may be,
Decorate me
In Nature.
In the way that a moonflower
Unfolds its petals at night,
And in the same way that a leggy houseplant
Reaches for the sun,
My body yearns
For the forest.
really nice imagery 👍
I go to the woods to worship my deity
Made of soil, bark, and trees.
Never before in all my life
Have I seen myself in something holy
But I am alive
In the wide expanse before me.
Wow—this hit me in the feels. That feeling of recognizing yourself in the wilderness, like the trees and the dirt are holding something sacred that mirrors back who you really are… it’s hard to put into words, but you did it.
I think so many of us go out there for that exact reason. Not to escape life, but to remember it. Thanks for sharing this—it’s a reminder that nature isn’t just a place we visit. It’s something we’re a part of 🌻
@callmethebreeze Thank you so much! I also have to say I'm so tickled you used a sunflower emoji. We lost my grandmother two weeks ago after a long and beautiful 86 years and her favorite flower was a sunflower <3 My grandpa used to grow massive ones for her.
@sarahruth333 nice synchronicity there. Sorry for your loss. And thanks for sharing.
@sarahruth333 That is such a special way for you to keep finding her all around you- so sorry for your loss. Grandmas are truly so, so special
