Have you ever seen a ghost pipe? They're these pale, ethereal plants that pop up on the forest floor and only hang around for about a week. Many people confuse them with mushrooms, but they're actually a perennial, closely related to blueberries. And they feed off mushrooms. They don't produce chlorophyll and that's why they're so ghostly white. I was lucky enough to spy them all the time in Vermont, but have yet to see any in Massachusetts. I absolutely love when I find a mystical looking plant that takes me out of reality for a minute, and reminds me that nature is the true magic around us.
No way! I absolutely thought these were a type of mushroom - super cool
