I’ve lived in Montana and northern New Hampshire, places where the aurora sometimes makes an appearance, but somehow, I’ve never seen it from the ground. The only time I’ve caught a glimpse was from a plane window, flying from Seattle to Anchorage—a faint green shimmer stretching across the sky while everyone else on the flight slept peacefully, totally unaware. I can remember wanting to rattle the people in the seats near me - "Are you SEEING this?!" That was a super cool experience, don't get me wrong, but I am desperately seeking the real deal. Staying awake into the wee hours to be met with vibrant bursts of color and the sound of faint humming and crackling.
I’ve stood outside on freezing nights, checked forecasts, and chased clear skies, but with no luck. Still, I know it’s out there, and I’m not giving up. It may take waiting to visit Iceland at the right time of year....either way, the hunt continues.
Who else has gone hunting for the northern lights? Have you ever just stumbled into them by accident?
