The greatest blessing of my life was finding my soul-dog at 18 years old.
I was just a kid when I brought her home. I had no business taking on a dog at the time. Back then, I never thought about the day I’d have to let her go. Let alone all the days in between- the way she would shape every aspect of my life between that day and now.
I’ve chosen a life of evolution and revolving change. Stillness was never an option, and I guess the first moment I saw her, a part of me knew that she was the one soul on this earth that could be my companion through it all. The last 11 years have been constant movement- over two dozen new homes, thousands and thousands of miles of open road, grief over loved ones, lost friendships, traumatic heartbreak, beautiful new relationships, too many new jobs to count, incredible unexpected opportunities, countless sunrises and sunsets in towns we had never seen amongst faces we had never known, the endless pursuit of our own personal call of the wild, insurmountable madness and wilderness and inexplicable joy- she was my one constant.
From dancing through the mist of the Pacific Northwest to dipping our toes in the cold rocky shores of New England to the murky Golf of Mexico. From rolling in the lush grass of Appalachia to racing through sand dunes of the Southwest to shivering through the night in the dead of winter listening to wolves howl and mountain lions scream in the far away forests of the Wild West to sitting quietly as moose walked up to our campfire in the Rocky Mountains to driving backroads chasing meteor showers into the dawn in the flattest parts of the wide open flyover states. From losing our way to finding ourselves. Meeka isn't leading the way on the trails, waiting at the base of the crag, or squeezing into my sleeping bag anymore....but in some ways, she'll always be there.
She was the best adventure partner I've ever had!
Let's see your adventure pups!
