In January of 2023 I went on a solo trip to Arches National Park for my birthday. I flew out and rented a campervan and stayed just outside the park at Sun Outdoors. It was pricier and had more amenities than I normally would have gone for, but it was my first time solo camping so far from home and it felt safe. Having electricity was important for me so I could use my heated blanket and space heater overnight. The sites were mostly concrete with picnic tables under canopies, definitely meant for more warm season camping. My original site had a pipe burst the first night and I woke up to lots of water and ice surrounding the van. The staff were really nice, though, and moved me to a new spot. While I was there, it had been a really dry season and you couldn’t burn fires which was kind of a bummer. Since it was winter and no fires allowed, I was even more grateful for the electricity and hot water. The campground was less than 10 minutes from the park and also surrounded by incredible views. As an east coaster, being surrounded by the red rocks was truly surreal. All in all, I enjoyed my stay at Sun Outdoors Moab, but I much prefer less commercial spots.
