Oh my, Alaska sure has my heart.
It's no surprise that one of my all-time favorite campgrounds is in the beautiful Last Frontier. In Seward, to be precise.
Miller's Landing. I've stayed here twice, and both times felt like a dream. This spacious campground sits right along the shore of Resurrection Bay in Seward. There are several waterfront sites, and they have added some cabins, as well. The entire campground is good, but if you can book far enough in advance to get a waterfront site, it is a MUST DO.
Regardless of what site you end up in, the beauty and grandeur of this place is unparalleled. I would gladly wake up to the views here, even without a single amenity. At Miller's though, that's not necessary. Showers and laundry services are available on site. The main building has a cute little gift shop and a super cozy cafe with a porch out front that has you wishing you could enjoy your morning coffee there everyday for the rest of forever. They have kayak and boat rentals, offer guided single day and multi-day kayak trips, run fishing and sightseeing charters, and they even offer courses like WFR.
You don't need to do any of these things to get your money's worth, though. You can watch bald eagles, puffins, sea otters, sea lions, and even whales right from your sight. You can fish for beautiful Alaskan salmon right off the shore. There are incredible hikes just minutes away, (try Mount Marathon!) and you're just barely out of downtown Seward, where you have access to wonderful eateries, a vibrant social atmosphere, and trips into the astonishing Kenai Fjords.
I could go on forever about this place, but you have to see it yourself to understand.
