In August 2023 I solo traveled to Acadia National Park and stayed at Bass Harbor Campground. I booked a primitive tent site and found it to be absolutely lovely. While it was pretty busy there, things were still very quiet at night. The staff were all super friendly and I felt very safe being there on my own. Bathrooms were clean and hot water was free which was huge. Attached to the bathhouse was a dishwashing station, which I also found incredibly helpful.

There were a lot of amenities that I didn't use like laundry and a swimming pool, but I know that those can be appealing for lots of campers. There were many camping options like yurts and cabins as well.

The campground was right near the Wonderland Trail and Bass Harbor Lighthouse and approximately a 40 minute drive from the entrance to the park itself. While I didn't love having to drive 40 minutes to get to and from the bigger part of the park, I liked that I was outside of Bar Harbor and away from the bustle of the tourists.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend this campground if you're looking for a quiet spot, nestled along the coast. I believe I paid $40/night which I think is extremely reasonable compared to other private campgrounds in close proximity to National Parks.

If you've ever been to Acadia, where did you stay? Do you prefer to camp right in National Parks or find somewhere else outside?
