It was my first time at Smith Rock in Oregon, and I was pumped to try bouldering. The towering rocks and perfect weather had me feeling unstoppable. But as I approached a problem called “The Overhang,” I realized I might have bitten off more than I could chew.
I scaled the first few holds easily, but when I reached the overhang, I was stuck. My arms were shaking, my feet slipping—every move felt impossible. After what seemed like forever, I took a deep breath, reminded myself to focus, and found a new way to grip the rock. Slowly but surely, I pushed through, reaching the top with my heart pounding.
It wasn’t just about the climb—it was about persevering, trusting my instincts, and overcoming that moment of doubt. Sometimes, the boulders that challenge us the most are the ones that teach us the most.
Anyone else faced a boulder that made you question your abilities before conquering it?
