I Just got back from an unforgettable backpacking trip in Wyoming’s Wind River Range, and I can’t stop thinking about it. We started at the Elkhart Park Trailhead, making our way toward Titcomb Basin, a route filled with jaw-dropping alpine scenery, rugged peaks, and crystal-clear lakes.
The most challenging part was the elevation gain—hiking above 10,000 feet with a full pack really tested my endurance. But every step was worth it when we reached camp near Island Lake, surrounded by jagged granite peaks reflecting in the water. Fishing for cutthroat trout at sunset, with not another soul in sight, was pure magic.
On the way back, we took a detour through Seneca Lake, where an unexpected afternoon thunderstorm forced us to hunker down. It was a good reminder that weather changes fast in the high country!
Who else has backpacked the Winds? Any favorite routes or must-see spots?
