I recently had the incredible opportunity to hunt greater kudu in South Africa’s Limpopo province, and it was an experience unlike any other. The landscape was a mix of thick bushveld and open plains, making tracking these elusive animals both challenging and rewarding.
Early one morning, we picked up fresh tracks near a waterhole. With the help of an experienced PH (professional hunter), we followed the spoor for hours, moving carefully to avoid detection. Finally, we spotted a massive bull, its spiraled horns cutting through the brush as it moved into a clearing.
After a steady shot at about 200 yards, the bull dropped cleanly. Walking up to such a majestic animal was humbling, and I have nothing but respect for the effort that goes into ethical hunting and conservation in Africa.
For those who’ve hunted in Africa, what species was your most memorable pursuit? Any tips for first-time hunters heading to the bush?
