Fishing and Regulations

• NOAA Fisheries reported that the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna General category commercial fishery closed at 11:30 p.m. local time on September 24 after the September subquota was projected to be reached. The closure runs through September 30, and the fishery is scheduled to reopen October 1 with a one-fish-per-vessel retention limit. Recreational fishing is not affected.

Wildfire and Fire Restrictions

• BLM Wyoming lifted fire restrictions effective September 23 on BLM-managed public lands in Fremont, Natrona, Big Horn, Park, Washakie, and Hot Springs counties. The statewide year-round fire prevention order remains in effect, including restrictions on fireworks and exploding targets.
• Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands designated dispersed camping spots at the Pinnacles camping area on Buffalo Gap National Grassland. Campers must use designated spots west of Forest Service Roads 7158 and 7170, and camping is prohibited east of those roads.

Trail and Access Closures

• Yosemite National Park’s Dome Fire update reported closures on Chilnualna Falls Trail, trails from the top of Chilnualna Falls toward Buena Vista and Crescent Lakes, Ostrander Trail, and areas south of Ostrander Trail. The park otherwise remained open and operating normally, with no evacuation orders or warnings reported in the update.
• Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park closed most recreation areas ahead of Tropical Storm Nolo because of forecast heavy rain, flooding, and damaging winds. Backcountry trails and campgrounds began closing September 23, and remaining recreational areas were scheduled to close by 5 p.m. September 24.

Water Safety

• CBS Detroit reported that a 26-year-old kayaker was found dead in West Grand Traverse Bay near Sunrise Beach in northern Michigan after an overturned-kayak report. The incident remains under investigation.
• News 12 Long Island reported that a 68-year-old man was rescued in Great South Bay after his kayak swamped and his waders filled with water. He was assisted to a sandbar, treated by responders, and taken to a hospital.
